The world and Europe have and still are being profoundly affected by the pandemic. Despite this, we believe that international and intercultural communication should and can continue. If you wish to take on a fresh challenge, meet new people and learn about the EU, then “Connected Europe” is your program!

What can you expect?

“Connected Europe” will broaden your horizons and support you in taking a step towards becoming a more active and culturally sensitive European citizen. You will make new friends and learn what being a European means for you and your peers. In a Model European Parliament simulation, you will learn about the processes within the EU, get the chance to take over the role of a Member of Parliament and have the opportunity to listen to guest speakers who work within the EU.

At the beginning of the programme you will be introduced to the workings of the EU. You will be given the appropriate information and resources to find out more about the EU and the EU Parliament so that you can effectively prepare yourself for the EU Parliament Simulation. Then, each participant will be given a role as a Member of the European Parliament and will work with fellow faction members to come up with a strategy for the programme highlight: discussion and debate in “Parliament”!

The discussion will revolve around agreeing and/or making amendments to a draft bill for a new environmental strategy within the EU. This is an increasingly important issue for the world today and the EU needs to take an active step in making change, taking responsibility, and setting a good example in environmental matters. You will also have the chance to hear from and exchange with guest speakers who have real life experience working for the European Parliament! This programme also gives you the fantastic opportunity for virtual exchange with peers from all over Europe enabling you to connect with people beyond your national borders.

Why Digital Exchange Programs with AFS?

Throughout their digital exchange programs, AFS aims to combine intercultural learning with different fields of interest. This gives participants not only the opportunity to benefit from learning about a specific topic but also by meeting and learning from peers from all around Europe.

Intercultural learning is at the core of all our programs, allowing you and your peers to improve your intercultural competence and understanding. This is vital in today’s society where people from different backgrounds and situations need to work together. This will give you the opportunity to enhance skills to be successful in your ongoing education and employment.

“Connected Europe” is for everyone who wants to become part of an international online Model European Parliament, get to know about the European Union and make new friends from all over Europe. We are looking forward to meeting you at “Connected Europe”.

Important to know:

“Connected Europe” is part of a series of programmes under the MOVE project. It is supported by the Mercator Foundation and the German AFS Foundation. This is to offer the fantastic opportunity for virtual exchange with peers and to promote understanding between young people from different cultural backgrounds.
